Best Margin Pole Under £100

Fishing for carp up close – or as we know it, in the margins – is an exciting and invigorating choice. If you don’t want to risk breaking your treasured full-length pole, you need to invest in a margin pole.

These are very strong, supremely durable fishing poles that are designed for the purpose, and they are a great addition to your fishing gear. We looked at some of the best margin poles available right now, so that you can make sure you have the one that does the job for you.

Shimano 850B Beastmaster

From one of the leading brands in the field, this excellent margin pole offers some impressive credentials and comes highly recommended by a variety of satisfied customers. It’s made from very strong, high quality materials that give it excellent durability and power, and is designed for fishing in the margins so covers all the bases if that is what you are looking for.

This one offers an 8.5m reach, which is about what you want with a margin pole, and you get everything you need for a great margin pole set up. It is supplied with a spare top kit, and is very neat indeed. However, you won’t get this one within our price restriction, as it’s somewhat more expensive, but we’ve included it because it is a great example of what a margin pole is all about.

This is an excellent package from a great brand, and one of the best-selling carp poles in the UK. It’s designed for margin fishing, and you get a very strong carbon pole that provides more than adequate stiffness and durability. It’s nicely made and is a quality item, yet you may be surprised when you check out the price that it is well within our required range of under £100.

This one is a 6m pole, but you get much more besides. It’s a fully elasticated rig that is perfect for carp fishing, to top section is ready elasticated, and you also get two additional elasticated top packages. Stillwater Match Stix 6m

We admit to being surprised how many very good margin poles we found beneath our price limit, and this is yet another from a known brand at what can only be described as an excellent price. It’s from Stillwater, who offer a wide range of fishing gear, and it is a carbon construction, which is very much the preferred material for poles that require strength such as this.

A dedicated margin pole, this one offers you 6m length with a weight of a little more than 400g, so will easily handle carp of a sensible size. It’s designed for arduous and robust work, so will be easy to handle and use in the most challenging of situations, and it is prepared for large elastics and designed for landing heavy fish with ease. All in all, a good choice of margin pole offering great quality at a surprisingly affordable price.

Preston Innovations Monster Rolla Pulla

Our final choice of margin is this one from Preston, another excellent brand with a strong reputation. This one does everything you expect from a pole of this type, at a price that is not at all extortionate – although slightly above our limit – and it is very impressive indeed. It’s a high-quality carbon fibre pole for added stiffness, weighs around 460g and is therefore light to handle, and is very neat indeed.

You get all the trimmings including a spare top kit, a mini extension and a nice holdall to make it easy to carry, and it is pre-fitted with bushes and elasticated for ease of use. This is a great pole if you want to be netting heavy fish, and one that we can recommend. If you have a little more to spend and want a truly good pole for margin fishing, try and stretch to this one.

That’s our list of the top margin poles on the market now, so which one is for you? It’s a hard decision, but here’s what we think!

Our Decisions

With a margin pole, what you want is strength and agility, and all of the above have this in abundance. We’ll start buy saying that while the Shimano is undoubtedly a class act, it’s too far out of our price-range to recommend, as we are looking at poles of less than £100.

Having said that, we would strongly recommend you search for extra pennies and go for the Preston Innovations model – the last one featured – as it is an excellent pole at a price that, while above our limit, is very good indeed.

If you do want to spend under £100, which is of course why you came here, we think the Middy CX range of poles is hard to beat, so check them out now and enjoy your margin fishing.
